This Week’s Assignment

It was the Chicago Blizzard of 2007 and my friend Crusty and I were battling the elements to reach our train. Through the snow I saw my opportunity to complete this week’s assignment and gently touched the older gentleman’s elbow in front of me as we made our way across the slushy downtown intersection. Yeehaw, I completed my first assignment! Crusty thought I was being nice and helping the poor guy. Now, if I had just snuck a dollar in his pocket, slapped some artwork on his back and hooted…..
Me and K. were at a bar on New Montgomery Street, and this girl in grey kept coming in, going out, coming in, going out, K. said “I’m gonna touch her elbow” — but he couldn’t get there….he stood near her outside while smoking a cigarette but the timing wasn’t working…later we were walking out the door, and there’s the girl in grey again, just standing there in the bar, so I reached out and touched her elbow, kept walking, never looked back!
so I tried to do this assignment … i really did, but
we live in a small town of 1,600 people and it really
is a case of everyone knowing everyone else. i touched
a couple of elbows, but i had a heckofa time findin’
one attached to someone i didn’t already know.
Again Mr. Rye, at first your assignment left me feeling very skeptical. Would I really enjoy trying to touch somebody’s elbow? Well, I’m an open-minded lad so I gave it a shot. To my surprise, just as I was about to make my move, somebody bumped into MY elbow! Then, I went in for the kill and touched my first victim’s elbow. He didn’t even notice. So I went for another person’s elbow. She didn’t bat an eyelash. I found myself addicted to this game and wanted to see how many elbow’s I could touch before somebody said something about having their elbow touched. Nobody has said a word.
