   I wrote “FREE” on a Post-It and used it to slap a dollar on the side of a F-Market bus stop. then I crossed the street and sat in the sun on the Embarcadero and watched.

   2:36pm - posted dollar
   2:44 please somebody walk by this dollar!
   2:50 nobody’s taking it — I picked it up
   3:00 slapped dollar to new location — parking meter pole on Broadway I could see from my office window
   3:16 still there…at least 10 people have walked right by it. Many look right at it but keep going.
   3:26 still there. 3 guys walked by, 1 saw it but didn’t grab it, told his buddies about it, they’re all looking back at the meter but still walking away from it…
   3:36 still there!
   3:46 gone! — but I missed who picked it up. It ate at me for a while, not knowing who got it…

   i dropped a dollar out my apartment window. i watched as the mail lady, a woman pushing a stroller, and a man all walked by it. i started thinking no one would see it or pick it up! i thought about putting a listing on craigslist saying there was a free dollar on the corner of golden gate and baker. then, i went to do something and came back to look out the window and it was gone.

   I tried to leave a dollar at the bus stop on 24th and Folsom. . .as I was getting on the bus a lady ran after me to give the doller back she thought I had dropped it by mistake. I told her she could keep it, she wouldn’t. I will try again.

   I did as was assigned and left a dollar for someone else IN THE POCKET OF MY PANTS. No one stopped by to claim it so I used it to buy some sushi, because me loves some sushi! I guess it was a stretch to imagine that someone else would be browsing the pocket of my pants but one can never be too certain and it’s not like they wouldn’t be welcome to it anyhow (unless they were going to wiggle their fingers around in there).

It sits there for a couple of hours while we’re makin’ and bakin’. As yet, there’s only myself and other person in the bakery. We open at 7:00. Every day, my first customer is Mrs. Olsen. She owns a gift shop that’s kitty-corner to us, and if we’re open, she’s there AT 7:00! She opens the door, I think she sees the dollar on the floor … she hang’s-up her coat, bends down, picks up the dollar and says, “Are you giving away money now Jason?” I pretend to have no idea how the dollar got there and we decide to put it into the tip cup, which is where is came from in the first place. Tomorrow … I put it out again AFTER she leaves!
